Volunteer

Volunteer with the Airdrie & District Hospice Society

We rely heavily on our volunteers and welcome you to look into our volunteer opportunities to see if being a volunteer is something you would like to do! We have three types of volunteer positions:

Event Volunteers

In this position you are called upon when we need volunteers for events like trade shows, distributing posters, putting together information pamphlets, setting up for fundraising events etc. There is no pressure or monthly commitments and you can work with us as much or little as you can. All help is appreciated! (Volunteers must complete police check.)

Compassionate Care Volunteers

In this capacity you will take our free compassionate care course and be trained to provide bedside respite when required. Since we currently do not have a physical hospice location we do not have many opportunities at this time to work in this capacity as we have more volunteers than beds to sit by. However, this is where the event volunteering comes in. We need to advertise our services more and work on fundraising so we can provide more hospice to those in need! So we welcome you to consider being an event volunteer as well! (Volunteers must complete police check.)

Board Member

As an elected board member you are still a volunteer but you will need to commit more time to the society. Averaging about 15 hours per month, including a meeting once a month, board members work on our strategic planning and work on goals for the year. We also have committees for all of our events and for acquiring grants, building relationships with other organizations, developing support programs and working on community engagement. (Board members must complete police check, pay membership fee and be able to commit to attending board meetings.)
